Palm Springs ShortFest to host Iran’s ‘Funfair’

The Palm Springs International ShortFest in the US has selected much-celebrated Iranian short title ‘Funfair’ for it official competition section.

Directed by Kaveh Mazaheri, the 15-minute short will be in contention with 332 other works that have been selected by the 26th edition of the US event.

The film narrates the story of a young married couple and their 5-year-old kid.

The three of them are grabbling with financial issues that the father of the family has brought upon them.

A brief synopsis for the short reads, “Majid, a financially struggling man, comes up with a ploy in order to better the life of his wife, Sara”.

The special mention of the Winchester Film Festival in the UK, the Best Screenplay Award at the Scene film festival as well as the Non-European Dramatic Short Award at the European Independent Film Festival in France and the Best International Short Film at the Foyle Film Festival in the UK are among the successes gained by ‘Funfair’.

The Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs International ShortFest aims to stay the medium that keeps film markets, filmmakers and viewers connected.

In the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of the event will not be an in-person fest.

The set venue and date for the fest is the city of Palm Springs in California on June 16-22, 2020.
